FreeState Legal and Equality Maryland are excited to announce that we are merging to better serve the LGBTQ population across Maryland by forming a comprehensive, statewide LGBTQ civil rights organization that combines policy advocacy, direct legal services, and education programming as we work toward Achieving Lived Equality for all LGBTQ Marylanders. We invite you to join us at Achieving Lived Equality: An Event Celebrating the Merger of FreeState Legal and Equality Maryland on Thursday, June 30, 2016 at the Baltimore Museum of Industry.
Our community has seen unbelievable progress towards full equality for lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, and queer (LGBTQ) people in recent years, yet we continue to receive phone calls every day from LGBTQ people who experience discrimination in health care, employment, housing, and public accommodations, who risk losing custody of their children, and who face harassment in schools and foster care.
For over 25 years, Equality Maryland has led the charge in our state to elect pro-equality candidates, pass non-discrimination laws, and defend marriage equality by popular vote in the 2012 election. Since 2008, FreeState Legal has been representing low-income LGBTQ people in legal matters that arise out of one’s sexual orientation or gender identity, winning groundbreaking cases that change the legal landscape for the LGBTQ community.
On June 30, 2016, please join us at the Baltimore Museum of Industry for an event celebrating the merger of Equality Maryland and FreeState Legal where we will unveil our new name and logo and our renewed mission, vision, and priorities for achieving lived equality for all LGBTQ Marylanders.
