FreeState is proud to celebrate the work of community activist Sean Lare! Sean Lare is a licensed clinical social worker, therapist, and consultant with over 10 years of experience helping LGBTQ children, youth, adults, and their family members. Sean’s work with the LGBT community began as a volunteer at Indiana Youth Group—an LGBT youth drop-in center in Indianapolis—but he now has a private practice in Columbia, MD, where he helps individuals figure out how to develop their unique identities, navigate their paths for any transitions they may want, attend to their relationships, and care for their mental health needs. In addition, Sean works with AIDS Action Baltimore to provide mental health services to participants in their Transpeople Empowerment in Action (TEA) Time program. As a consultant and trainer, Sean frequently meets with community leaders, school officials, health care providers, and other mental health counselors to help them increase their sensitivity to LGBTQ issues, particularly related to gender. Whenever possible, Sean connects individuals, families, and professionals to additional LGBTQ resources to help support their journey. Most recently, Sean served as the local lead liaison for the mental health professional training at the first Gender Conference East (www.genderconferenceeast.org)as well as serving as the team lead for the conference’s teen programming. Sean lives with his wife and their child in Columbia, Maryland. For more information, check out www.seanlare.com.
