FreeState Justice Appoints Three New Directors to Join the Leadership Team
A big welcome to the newest members of the FSJ community!
FreeState Justice (FSJ), a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization dedicated to
improving the lives of Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender, Queer, Intersex
& Asexual (LGBTQIA+) Marylanders, is pleased to announce the addition of
three new directors: Phillip Westry, Tina Jones, and Shayne Miller-Westfield.
Phillip Westry is joining the FreeState Justice team as Legal Director. In this
role, he will lead a legal team of both in-house and pro bono attorneys, in
providing civil rights litigation to low-income members of the LGBTQIA+
community.
Prior to joining FreeState, Phillip spent more than ten years working in
nonprofit program management and as a public interest attorney, providing
legal assistance to Marylanders seeking help with consumer debt defense,
foreclosure prevention, and tenants’ rights cases.
“I’m excited to join the team at FreeState Justice!” said Phillip. “There is a history of high-quality
legal assistance to members of the LGBTQ community, and I am looking forward to building on
that history.”
Tina Jones is joining FreeState Justice as Programs Director. In her role, Tina
will work to help improve the lives of LGBTQIA+ Marylanders by creating
awareness of issues facing the community. Her primary focus is to address
the community’s healthcare, housing, and legal service needs. In reference
to her new role at FSJ, Tina stated, “I’m excited that I have been given the
opportunity to support and create new programs and partnerships that will
improve the lives of our community members.”
Prior to joining FSJ, Tina served in various leadership and board roles at non-
profit, governmental, and private sector organizations. She currently leads
the Mid Shore Transliance, volunteers with PLAG Mid Shore, and serves on
the board of GLSEN Maryland and as chair of the Delmarva Pride Festival.
Shayne Miller-Westfield is joining the FreeState Justice team as Development
Director. As Development Director, Shayne will support efforts to expand a
sustainable funding base for FreeState Justice and build strong relationships
with individuals, corporations, and foundations in the community and
nationally.
“I’m happy to join the FreeState Justice team as Development Director.”
stated Shayne, “I’m looking forward to assisting the growth of this
organization.”
Before joining FreeState Justice, Shayne served in leadership,
communications, and programmatic roles with a range of organizations and
nonprofits that focus on Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DEI) initiatives.
“We are pleased to welcome three new directors to the leadership team at
FreeState Justice,” said Jeremy LaMaster, Executive Director. “With diverse
skill sets and backgrounds, Phillip, Tina, and Shayne will contribute to the
mission of improving the lives of LGBTQIA+ Marylanders. We look forward to
leaning on this growing leadership team to build awareness of the
organization and serve our community.”
