FreeState Justice’s First Annual Sunset Soirée

FreeState Justice wants to thank everyone who made last week's event possible!

A Message from FreeState Justice Executive Director, Phillip Westry

Hello,

On behalf of FreeState Justice, I would like to extend a huge thanks to everyone who made last week’s Sunset Soirée possible.

The Sunset Soirée took place last Friday evening. We heard from policymakers, pro bono attorneys, and community advocates. The rest of the event was filled with great food, dazzling drag performances, and local LGBTQIA+ Marylanders dancing and building community with one another; it was a unique and fun time for all. I want to thank our sponsors for providing us with the resources to host such an impactful and joyous space. We are flattered by your support and are grateful for your commitment to Maryland’s LGBTQIA+ community. I also want to give a special shoutout to Delegates Kris Fair, Anne Kaiser, and Joseline A. Peña-Melnyk, Esq., along with legal attorney Timothy F. McCormack from Ballard Spahr.

The funds raised for this event support our pride outreach activities. FreeState Justice will be participating in the following pride festivals:

  • Caroline Pride
  • Baltimore Trans Pride
  • DC Black Pride
  • Annapolis Pride
  • Capital Pride Festival
  • Delmarva Pride
  • Mt. Vernon Pride
  • Frederick Pride
  • Charles Street Promenade
  • Greenbelt Pride
  • Baltimore Pride Parade and Block Party
  • Salisbury Pride
  • Westminster Pride
  • Hagerstown Pride
  • Laurel Pride
  • Caroline Pride Ribbon Cutting Ceremony
  • Old Ellicott City Pride
  • Cumberland Pride
  • Catonsville Pride
  • Crofton Pride

I want to give a special thanks to Delegate Maggie McIntosh, not only for attending the event and for accepting our Beacon of Justice award, but for her many years of advocating for our local communities. Celebrating you and your work for LGBTQIA+ people throughout Maryland was an honor.

Finally, I want to thank the entire FreeState Justice staff, as this event would not have been possible without their commitment and fortitude.

We thank you so much for your support, and we promise you there is much more to come from FreeState Justice in the future. If you would like to support us as we enter Pride month, push to provide vital services, and host more events like this one, please consider donating to our organization’s efforts. With your help, we can make Maryland an equitable and inclusive place for all.

Sincerely,

Phillip Westry, Esq.
