FreeState is now accepting applications from law students interested in interning at FreeState during the spring and summer of 2016.

Interns will assist LGBTQ+ clients on matters that may include name / gender changes, school bullying, discrimination, and family matters.  Interns can expect various assignments from drafting petitions to conducting legal research. Students will be expected to answer phones, conduct client intake, preliminarily assess legal issues and present them to the staff attorneys.

This is a comprehensive advocacy model, and is intended to allow student interns to act as creative lawyers and community advocates, combining direct representation, systemic advocacy and outreach / education components in a unified effort to advance the interests of low-income LGBT Marylanders.

Please forward an application packet to Jer Welter at jwelter@freestatelegal.org.

Application packets should include:
– A cover letter
– A resume
– A writing sample
– An unofficial transcript
