SpeakFire! Panel Series: Descendants of Sojourner, Nat and Harriet

Surviving Violence in Black LGBTQ Communities

The Black Lives Matter Movement has engaged much of America in a necessary dialogue about intersections of lethality and race; however the stories of Black LGBTQ folks have been pushed to the side, and mainly ignored by mainstream anti-violence movements. This panel will be an opportunity to bring together diverse voices from Black LGBTQ survivors of violence, share stories of survival and celebration, and discuss ways to ensure that Black LGBTQ voices are not marginalized in calls for justice.

The Speak Fire Panel Series is a brave space for Black LGBTQ folks and allies to reflect on our histories of great resistance and love. The SpeakFire! Panels are produced by a partnership between FreeState Legal Project, The Center for Black Equity-Baltimore, STAR TRACK, Black Transmen, Incorporated-Maryland/D.C. Chapter, and Sistas of “T”.

The panel will take place on March 12, 2015 from 5:30 pm to 8:30 pm at Mount Vernon’s Chase Brexton, located at 1111 North Charles Street. To RSVP, please click here. Refreshments will be served.
