Baltimore Safe Haven & FreeState Justice spoke with the Real News Network on the importance of lifting up and honoring Black trans lives. During this #TransWeekofAction and on International Transgender Day of Visibility #TDOV, we hope to both celebrate Black trans lives while continuing to highlight the systemic, intersectional oppression the community faces. Over 38 organizations, signed on to a letter calling for #REFORMNOW of Maryland Department of Public Safety & Corrections (DPSCS) policies as it relates to transgender, lesbian, gay, bisexual, and queer (TLGBQ) folks in light of the recent death of Kim Wirtz, a Black trans woman of Baltimore that died in a male cell during pre-trial detention in late February. The family of Kim Wirtz has still not been given a cause of death.
We need continued support as we seek #Justice4Kim. Join Baltimore Safe Haven and FreeState Justice (https://www.facebook.com/events/763459750968590) outside Baltimore City Hall at 3 PM, rain or shine (bring an umbrella), as we honor Black trans lives.
