Businesses can play an important part in ensuring that LGBTQ people, and people in general, are able to live openly and with dignity. After the Masterpiece Cakeshop vs. Colorado Rights Commission ruling, it has become clear that businesses and citizens need to be vocal about their inclusivity of people of all gender identities, gender expressions, sexual orientations, races, and any other identities. Unfortunately, many states still do not have laws that explicitly protect LGBTQ people from discrimination.
The #OpenToAll coalition asserts that when businesses are open to the public, they should be open to everyone on the same terms. Participating businesses pledge to create a safe and welcoming environment for all people, and to never discriminate based on any identity or characteristic. The coalition consists of more than 165 organizations, including a rapidly growing number of businesses.
